About Going Public
AN EVENT FOR WOMEN OF INFLUENCE
Going Public is the leading event for women in the public sector and politics in Australia.
The conference unites women to hear about the life stories of others. It enables them to network with elected representatives and others working in local, state or federal government. Importantly, it allows delegates to learn from other women’s experiences and take away practical strategies for their own workplaces.
The Going Public speaker line-up is always impressive. Previous speakers include Julia Gillard, Julie Bishop, Joan Kirner, Cheryl Kernot, Kerry Chikarovski, Clover Moore and a host of leading public servants and management experts. Many delegates have commented that Going Public is one of the best and most relevant conferences they have attended in their professional lives.
In its fourth year Going Public 2008 was again another highly successful event held November 20 - 21 at the Amora Hotel Jamison in Sydney.
Going Public delivered cutting-edge speakers; tools for professional and personal development; tips for achieving life balance; and learning and networking opportunities, all tailored to those working in politics and the public sector. The fantastic audience participation during the panel and Q&A sessions was testimony to the honest and direct responses delivered by the speakers.
While this year's proceedings demonstrated the trials women working in politics and the public sector still face - including inequality, a lack of flexibility and evident sexism still rife within the workplace - it was great to see delegates offering advice and support for one another at the conference.
A clear message that came out of Going Public was that women still have lessons to learn from each other and that the fight for equality it real and still worth pursuing.
